How Meshtastic Works

Meshtastic is a non-licensed text radio mesh that enables you to use inexpensive LoRa radios as a long-range off-grid encrypted communication platform.

What is MeshTac?

MeshTac operates as a private Metastatic channel, reserved for members, facilitating off-grid emergency and amateur communications.

Within our network, members are responsible for the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and testing of both remote and local nodes across MeshTac’s proprietary private channels.

What about the public mesh?

While we recognize the importance of extending the public Meshtastic network and appreciate the convenience of the default channel for connecting to public nodes, the public mesh is integral to our operations, and we are committed to its expansion.

The public mesh facilitates widespread, accessible communication, which is a foundational aspect of our mission.

However, MeshTac serves a distinct purpose by providing members-only communications on private, encrypted channels. This specialized focus ensures secure and reliable communication specifically tailored for rigorous testing and critical emergency use. By maintaining these revolving channels, we can conduct thorough evaluations and deliver robust, dependable solutions when they are needed most for our members.

how MeshTac works

To become a MeshTac member, you must first join and submit your Meshtastic radio ID number that you would like to have included in MeshTac. Once approved, you will gain access to the private MeshTac channel list and our members-only forum.

The benefit of joining is that messages and data sent using our MeshTac channels are exclusively to approved members only. This ensures that your communications and GPS data remain separate from the public Meshtastic network, to be shared with only vetted members of MeshTac.

We believe it is essential to have a tested, secure, and reliable Meshtastic communication channel for both emergency and amateur use.
